THE MISSION
Every Queen Bleeds is an educational guerrilla movement to break the stigma surrounding menstruation.
Through workshops, menstrual solutions and social marketing, EQB works to combat menstrual injustice and inequity.
THE FACTS
Menstrual taboos create student dropouts and stress.
Menstruation remains a taboo subject in communities across Africa, access to products and education is dangerously limited.
Schools often don’t have private bathrooms, potable water or trash facilities, making it difficult for girls to wash and dispose of their menstrual products. Attending school while menstruating becomes a miserable experience for many girls, undermining education.
Ethiopian girls have little to no access to affordable and adequate menstrual management supplies. Many Ethiopian girls use rags or homemade alternatives to pads, which lead to unhygienic menstrual practices often times resulting in humiliating leaks, discomfort and vaginal infections.
“I just hate it, it’s uncomfortable. I mean it doesn’t give me the freedom to do what I want when I am on my period. I can’t play games as I used to and do stuff as I used to do. I wish to be a guy.”
